What not to do when working with old furniture.
A quick article to give you a better understanding of Antiques.
What not to do when working with old furniture
Do not use nails to fix broken joints, in fact anywhere the nail can split the timber fibres internally.
Old pieces are built to last but have to be repaired occasionally. Be patient. Repair carefully – remember wood does not forgive.
Use the right tools for the job. If you buy the correct tool it will be an investment as well as not causing any further damage.
If the repair looks complicated it probably is. Compare the value of item to the cost of the repair remembering the ever dwindling source of hardwood timbers.
There is beauty in every design no matter how simple or intricate. Restore, recycle and save the trees.
